Becoming Catholic - OCIA

If you are an adult who is interested in becoming Catholic or learning more about the Catholic faith, St. John the Evangelist Parish warmly invites you to participate in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).

OCIA is a journey of faith and discovery for adults who are seeking to learn more about Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church, and what it means to live as a member of the Catholic community. The process provides an opportunity to ask questions, explore the teachings of the Church, grow in faith, and develop a deeper relationship with Christ.

The process typically begins in the fall with a period of Inquiry, during which participants have the opportunity to learn about the Catholic faith in a welcoming and supportive environment. This period leads to the Rite of Acceptance.

The journey continues throughout the spring with further formation and preparation, including the Rite of Election/Enrollment, celebrated with the Bishop. The process culminates in the celebration of the Easter Vigil, when those who are ready receive the sacraments of initiation and enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.

Adult Confirmation

Adults who have already received the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Eucharist but have not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation are invited to participate in our adult Confirmation preparation.

A series of classes is offered following Easter to help participants deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and prepare spiritually to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The preparation concludes around Pentecost Sunday, when the Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated by the Bishop.

Continuing to Grow in Faith

Our journey of faith does not end when we receive the sacraments. Faith is a lifelong journey of learning, growing, and deepening our relationship with God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

St. John the Evangelist Parish offers opportunities for adults and families to continue growing in faith through Bible studies, faith formation opportunities, guest speakers, and other parish programs.

We invite everyone in our parish community to take part, ask questions, discover more about Scripture and our Catholic faith, and grow together as disciples of Christ.
